Motion blur
The streaking or smearing effect caused when a subject moves or the camera shakes during a slow exposure. While often unwanted, motion blur can be used creatively to convey speed, energy, or the passage of time. Panning techniques intentionally blur backgrounds while keeping moving subjects sharp.
