Acting out
A psychoanalytic concept applied to history by Dominick LaCapra, describing the compulsive repetition of traumatic experiences without awareness or critical reflection. Unlike working through, acting out keeps individuals and societies trapped in cycles of trauma, unable to move beyond the past.
