Civil Religion
Sociologist Robert Bellah's term for a nation's shared body of religious-adjacent language, symbol, and ritual, deployed for civic cohesion independent of any individual citizen's specific personal belief. Unlike an officially established state religion, civil religion designates no specific theological tradition and requires no citizen to hold particular doctrinal content.
