An opinion piece expressing a publication's institutional stance on an issue, written by the editorial board rather than individual reporters. Editorials appear in a clearly labeled opinion section, separate from news coverage. This separation (called the 'church-state divide' in journalism) is meant to preserve the credibility of straight news reporting.
