Haber-Bosch Process
An industrial chemical process that synthesizes ammonia from atmospheric nitrogen and hydrogen gas, developed in the early 20th century. It made cheap synthetic fertilizer possible, enabling a massive expansion of food production but also causing nitrogen pollution.
