Herding behavior

The tendency of investors to follow the crowd rather than act on independent analysis. During bubbles, herding drives prices far above fundamental value as everyone assumes others know something they don't. During panics, herding causes excessive selling. Herding explains why markets can remain irrational longer than skeptics can remain solvent.
