Sharp Power
Christopher Walker's term (mid-2010s) for authoritarian states' efforts to influence, penetrate, and manipulate another country's information and political environment through concealment, distortion, or coercion rather than genuine attraction. Distinguished from soft power by its defining feature: concealment. Sharp power works because the target audience does not recognize the influence effort's actual source or coordination, whereas soft power's appeal depends on nothing being hidden.
