Best Response

The strategy that maximizes a player's payoff given a specific choice, or belief about the choice, of the other player or players. Where no strategy dominates every alternative, best response is the tool for finding what a rational player should do given a particular guess about the opponent — and a Nash equilibrium is the outcome where every player is simultaneously playing a best response to everyone else.
