Cheap Talk
A signal that costs nothing to send regardless of whether it is true, and that therefore carries little to no credible information — a seller's spoken claim that a used car is reliable, which a lemon-seller could say just as easily as an honest one. Contrasted with a costly signal, whose credibility comes precisely from its expense.
