Chicxulub impact
The asteroid impact approximately 66 million years ago that struck what is now the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, contributing to the end-Cretaceous mass extinction that killed non-avian dinosaurs. Identified through the iridium anomaly discovered by Luis and Walter Alvarez in 1980.
