Consent

Voluntary agreement to an action, relationship, or system of governance. For consent to be valid, it must be informed, freely given, and ongoing. Philosophers debate whether silence equals consent and whether people can meaningfully consent to systems they were born into. Central to questions of political legitimacy: can authority be just without the consent of the governed?
