De-extinction
The proposed resurrection of extinct species using genetic engineering techniques, particularly CRISPR. Current projects target the woolly mammoth and passenger pigeon. Beth Shapiro has argued that true de-extinction is impossible — at best, we can create modified living species that resemble extinct ones.
