Defense Industrial Base
The network of domestic and allied industries — manufacturing, technology, logistics — that supply a state's military with equipment and materiel. The Ukraine war exposed a gap between Western defense-industrial capacity and the demands of sustained high-intensity warfare, prompting a multi-year Western production expansion (U.S. 155mm shell output rising roughly sevenfold in a multi-year ramp) that could not scale on a consumer-electronics timeline the way FPV drone production could, because artillery-shell manufacturing depends on specialized forging, machining, and energetic-materials processes.
