Globalization

The accelerating worldwide circulation of cultural forms, media, and languages — the pressure system within which language shift, cultural appropriation, and language revitalization all operate. This course treats cultural globalization as a live, contested process rather than a finished or neutral endpoint, since the same homogenizing forces eroding the ethnosphere elsewhere are acting on every reader's own culture as well.
