Ideal type
A methodological tool developed by Max Weber consisting of an analytically pure conceptual model that accentuates certain features of a social phenomenon. Ideal types are not descriptions of reality but deliberate abstractions used to measure and compare real-world cases, such as Weber's ideal types of authority or bureaucracy.
