Verstehen
Max Weber's methodological principle of interpretive understanding, which holds that social science must grasp the subjective meanings that actors attach to their actions. Unlike the natural sciences, which explain phenomena through causal laws, sociology achieves understanding by reconstructing the motivations and intentions behind human behavior.
