Pastoralism
A subsistence strategy organized around herding domesticated animals, often combined with seasonal movement to follow available pasture and water. The Nuer of the southern Sudan, documented by E. E. Evans-Pritchard, organized their entire social, economic, and ceremonial life around cattle — used for bridewealth payment, feud compensation, and even personal ox-names — requiring exact, transmitted ecological knowledge of grazing, water, and disease risk across their territory.
