Risk society
Ulrich Beck's thesis that modern industrial societies increasingly organize around the production, distribution, and management of risks — environmental, technological, financial — rather than around the distribution of goods. In risk societies, hazards are often invisible, globally distributed, and resistant to traditional institutional control.
