Siberian Traps
Massive volcanic eruptions in what is now Siberia approximately 252 million years ago, producing over 2 million km² of basalt lava. Released enormous quantities of CO2 and other gases, triggering the end-Permian mass extinction — the worst in Earth's history — through global warming, ocean acidification, and anoxia.
