Unicorn

A privately-held startup company valued at $1 billion or more. The term was coined by venture capitalist Aileen Lee in 2013 when such valuations were rare. Examples include Stripe, SpaceX, and Databricks. Unicorn status often attracts media attention and talent, though private valuations can prove optimistic when companies go public.
