Vestigial structure
An anatomical feature that has lost most or all of its original function through evolution. Human examples include the appendix, wisdom teeth, tailbone (coccyx), and the muscles that move the ears. These structures are evidence of evolutionary ancestry — they made functional sense in our evolutionary past.
