Antibiotic resistance
The evolved ability of bacteria to survive exposure to antibiotics that previously killed them. A direct consequence of natural selection: antibiotics create intense selective pressure, and bacteria with resistance genes survive and reproduce. Resistance can spread through horizontal gene transfer between bacterial species.
