Social Darwinism

A discredited ideology that misapplied Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection to human societies, arguing that social inequality reflects natural hierarchies and that aiding the disadvantaged interferes with evolutionary progress. Social Darwinism was used to justify laissez-faire economics, colonialism, and eugenics programs.
